Header Toggle 1
The 5-hour course is designed for new drivers ages 18 and up who are preparing to take the road test for their first driver license. Before you schedule an appointment for your behind-the-wheel driving test, you must pass this course.
Teens seeking a junior driver license (Class DJ) or junior motorcycle license (Class MJ) do not currently qualify for the NYSDMV’s Online Pre-Licensing Program. At this time, they’re required to complete the 5-hour course in the classroom.

The New York 5-Hour Online Pre-Licensing Course introduces new drivers to traffic laws, safe driving techniques, common risks for inexperienced drivers and much more. The goal of the course is to prevent crashes and teach new drivers how to be safe and courteous behind the wheel.
Our NYSDMV-approved course contains nine learning modules and a minimum of 270 minutes of instruction. There is no final exam. Each module ends with a five-question quiz, and you must score at least 70% on each quiz to pass the course. You have an unlimited number of attempts to pass each quiz.
Students must complete their training within 30 calendar days of registering for the course.

This training provides a formal opportunity for new drivers to learn the rules of the road and effective techniques to become a safer and more responsible driver.
